The MIT Club of Northern California closed out their fifth and final day of the MIT AI 2020 Virtual Conference: AI for a Better World on Saturday, July 18 and cred’s event management team was behind the scenes to ensure the 70+ speaker event was a success.
Due to changes surrounding COVID, this was MIT’s first move to the virtual stage. With nearly 1,300 registrants and over 13,000 views, the event spanned tracks ranging from the Future of Health to the Future of Economy.
Speakers explored the latest advancements in AI and the various ways those in the space are using AI to drive innovation across industries and make a better world for all. Anne Wojcicki, CEO of 23andMe, shared her journey with the healthcare industry and perspectives on the future, while Irena Asmundson, Chief Economist at the California Department of Finance, delivered her outlook of California’s Economy.
Back by popular demand, MIT brought AI Idol, AI Awards, and Research Slam to the virtual stage following each day of content. We saw 10 innovative startups pitch their companies to a high caliber audience of venture capital judges and industry experts at AI Idol, while AI Awards presented Kyle Vogt, Founder of Cruise and Twitch, with the 2020 Trailblazer Award.
The conference raised over $35K for the MIT COVID-19 Research and Emergency Fund, which will be used to support resource and equipment allocation to local hospitals, assist in the disposable face shields design and mass manufacture projects, and supplement the ongoing research related to vaccine development. From the remarkable amount of money raised to the high attendance rate, it is safe to say the first virtual MIT AI conference was a successful event full of innovative engagement, insightful presentations, and fun competition.
